New Students

We are thrilled to welcome 6 new students to the ABCD program: Edward, Regan, Patrick, Venista, Rose Paul and Suzan. These students are recommended for assistance by ABCD Tanzania due to family poverty. They are from the two government secondary schools that ABCD is supporting: Mlang’a SS and Makomu SS. Please consider that they do need supporters. If you would like to support one of these students in achieving their dreams through education please contact us. Any amount will help with the many costs: uniforms, food, shoes, school supplies, field trips etc.

Every two years we visit these beautiful children who all face poverty and possibility of leaving school because of financial barriers. Some of the children are orphans, most have only one parent and some are living with HIV/AIDS. We visit their families and interview the child and caregiver(s). Each child  is given art materials and some instruction, and we ask them to create a drawing or painting of their dream for their own future or of some aspect of their lives in Tanzania. It’s overwhelming to see the light of creativity and joy shine in their eyes when they start to draw or paint. Most of the children have never seen coloured pencils or paints but the innate creativity of childhood always comes through.

The children want to stay in school as long as possible and dream of careers within their community. They want to be doctors, teachers, engineers, store-owners and truck drivers. Many have dreams to help others and this is reflected in many of their artworks. To date we have seen, and have had reported to us by their teachers, much improvement in school grades, appearance, and general well-being.
